Discount Sets questioned:

How do printer ink cartridges affect your bottom line? Do you have more than one printer in the office? Would you like to know what you are spending on office printing? Are you considering a new printer and would like a simple way to compare the costs of different brands and models?

Due to the huge and ever changing range of printers available for sale, the cost to print on individual printers can vary greatly. Regardless if your printer is a laser printer or an inkjet the following steps outline the easy to calculate which one is the most economical to use.

Identify all of the consumable components of your printer (toners/printer ink cartridges, drums, fuser units). The easiest way to do this is to check your printer manual, or contact your printer cartridge supplier.

Identify the price you are paying per consumable, or its Recommended Retail Price.

Identify the number of pages each consumable is reported to print. The industry standard of print yield (pages the consumable will print) is 5%. This means that a standard page of text, such as a letter, will print on approximately 5% of the page (if you folded a page 20 times, one square would be 5%). Of course if you print a high proportion of graphics on your page, your print yields will be much lower.

THE CALCULATION

Divide the price of the consumable by the number of pages it yields (at 5%).

For example:

HP 2600N Colour Laser Printer

Q6000 Black Cartridge 2500 $115

Q6001 Cyan Cartridge 2000 pages $126

Q6002 Yellow Cartridge 2000 pages $126

Q6003 Magenta Cartridge 2000 pages $126

The black ink cartridge is $115/2500 = $0.046 (just under 5 cents per page)

The colour ink cartridges are $126/2000 = $0.063 each (just over 6 cents per page)

Notes: Make sure you include the costs of replaceable drums or fusers or maintenance kits etc.

The cost of printer ink cartridges and their yields is often readily available on the manufacturers website

By following the above steps, you should be able to determine the cost of office printing and with some investigation on printers and printer ink cartridges you should be on the way to lowering the cost of printing.

How Do Inkjet Printers Work?

Junior Royals questioned:

Given the advances that technology has been making over the last thirty years or so it is amazing that the Inkjet printer is just now becoming a “ho-hum” sort of item. The inkjet printer has been around since the early 1980’s but needed a few fine tuning advances to make it more affordable to the average user. Since that time in the 1990’s, when the advances necessary for mass marketing were found, inkjet cartridges have become the norm. But the question of how inkjet printers actually work, and is it a good thing remains. Of course the answers to these questions are yes, no and maybe.

Two choices

The basic concept behind the inkjet printer lies in the concepts of how printers work. Right at the “ya…so” level we find an answer of; a printer puts printer ink onto a piece of paper or other material. In our case we are talking about getting ink from ink cartridges onto paper in a finely defined color.

Thermal bubble – This first choice came largely from the bubble jet era and works by generating a certain amount of heat in the printer ink cartridges. The heat causes a bubble to form which eventually collapses as the printer ink is forced through a nozzle due to the bubble formation. The collapse of the bubble then causes more printer ink to enter for the same process to begin again.

Piezoelectric – There is a significantly smaller penetration of this method due to patent rights but the general concept is the same if you are able to connect heat and vibration as thermal equivalents. In this method the printer ink is ejected by vibrating crystals within the jet nozzle as electricity is passed through the crystals. As the crystals vibrate they cause the printer ink to be ejected and replaced by more printer ink. In this particular method there are many more nozzles than in the thermal bubble method so image quality is significantly better. Unfortunately, with the rights issue in place this quality is in limited release which makes the thermal bubble method more preferred.

Costs

The costs of inkjet ink cartridges can, unfortunately, be rather high. In this case the user must look to the cost of the unit if there is to be any noticeable difference in Inkjet cartridges bought. Lower cost machines do have a tendency to have lower cost ink cartridges but quality of the copy is poor. Looking in the other direction, higher cost printers will give you high quality prints but ends up costing you more than the printer in ink cartridges over time.

How inkjet printers work and the quality/cost issues appear to have penetrated the average consumers psyche in the first years of the 21st century. Using an analogy for Americans it is sort of like buying a Chevy (car), You know what you are getting, it is basic and it will last. For an item that has essentially become a commodity this is not such a bad thing. Until the next advance is made, this has been about 30 years in coming.

Authorized Shop questioned:

Where should you buy your printer ink cartridges and printer ink peripherals? Well the answer that question is multifaceted so let’s take an in-depth look.

Firstly there is a large range of stockists that can be found on the internet. This is great news and it means you have many options to choose from for all your ink cartridge needs.

The websites should be easy to navigate that even a child could easily locate the correct product and make the purchase without any hassles or wasted time clicking from link to link. I personally hate websites that do not make the experience easy but many retailers have spent a lot of money getting their website up to top notch levels. So don’t waste anymore of your precious time navigating out of date websites.

Printer ink can be obscenely expensive to buy at the local department store or elsewhere. Because you are buying online and not a store they can keep their overheads down and pass these savings onto you, the customer.

I used to get sick of driving down to a busy shopping mall, finding a park then going into the shop to purchase printer ink. But now it’s a breeze to walk down to my office and click few links and voila, my ink products are on the way via the local delivery company. For example, I use 4inkjets for all my printer ink needs and they are really fast at getting your orders packed and ready for delivery to your door within a few short days or even less.

Overall I fully recommend anyone to shop online for printer ink, whether you are a busy person like me, who just does not have the time to do the process manually or you just want to save yourself a lot of money you won’t find better anywhere. There’s one more huge advantage, and that is the coupons. You can use coupons to further reduce the cost of your order and save yourself even more money like I do at 4inkjets.com. They have the largest range of all ink products anywhere on the internet and can easily save you $20 to $50 per product compared to your local store. I hope you have enjoyed this article and will use 4inkjets coupons to lower your printer ink costs forever.

Pallet Disposal questioned:

Printers have become a dominant feature in most offices, restaurants, hospitals, hotels and homes. The use of a printer is unavoidable because it prints high quality images and text in a cost effective manner. These printers are designed mainly for official use, as there is a requirement of numerous prints with high quality.

Printers require two main elements to function; one is electricity and the other is ink or toner. The ink is a limited resource and needs to be refilled or replaced from time to time. Purchasing a new printer ink cartridge may be expensive. However, refilling is cheaper yet equally efficient. The black ink printer cartridges are designed for remarkable professional quality black text and graphic reproduction.

An ink cartridge is a removable component of all types of printers. The cartridge functions as a store for black ink and act as a medium to apply the ink in a designated manner on the paper. The cartridge is docked into the printer and place closely above the printing surface of the paper. A printer may make use of a single ink cartridge and rarely two cartridges. The cartridge contains ink reservoirs, electronic components, and an electric chip that connects the cartridge to the printer.

A printer is usually provided with a cartridge and specification on the number of prints it is capable of producing per cartridge. It is advisable to use the same brand of black ink cartridge for the corresponding printer, as they are known to function flawlessly. Companies selling printing accessories offer high quality and long lasting black ink cartridges that need fewer refills and hence prove to be more productive.

Printer ink cartridges normally use two types of ink; one is pigment-based black ink and the other is dye-based ink. This ensures crispy, quick, and anti-fading outputs. It is advisable to purchase black ink cartridges from reliable sources, as there are many replicas available which makes it difficult to differentiate between the original and a replica.

Premium Domainer questioned:

Computers have become an indispensable part of our lives. They have made a number of jobs simple and easy. Different types of printer and printers have further diversified the utility of computers. In many large organizations and publishing houses there are computers specially dedicated to the printers used there.

Getting a printer or scanner attached to the computer is not a difficult task. One can easily get one plugged in to the system. Alternatively, one can buy a single Multi-functional printer with scanner, fax, etc., all in one unit. This multi-functional printing unit is easy to install, efficient, and user-friendly. No matter what printer you choose as suitable for you, it will last long and provide you with hassle-free performance only if maintained well.

One area of concern for people who bring printers to heavy use is the ink cartridge cost. Ink cartridges for Printer and Printers are an essential requirement and account for the major amount of operating cost of the unit. This cost can be cut down to a great extent by proper usage of ink cartridges. Here are some tips to make the printer ink cartridges last longer:-

When printing a document in black-and-white, use a black ink cartridge. Colored cartridges also give good print but they result in faster depletion of the cartridge ink.
While printing draft documents, print in low resolution mode, this will use less ink. One can switch back to the high resolution mode when printing the final document.
Print the whole document only if there is a need. Otherwise, just select the portions requiring a reprint. Also, skip printing images if there is no need. This saves a lot of ink.
While selecting a printer, also inquire about the cartridges it requires. Some units use more expensive cartridges than others.

The cartridges are generally different for different series of the same printer brand. Konica Printer and Printers, for instance, use different toner cartridges for different Konica Minolta printer series. The price of the toners vary according to their quality and the number of pages they can print.

Almost all branded printers manufacture ink cartridges for their brands. These include Canon, Epson, Lexmark, and many others. The replacement ink cartridges are equally efficient. The Konica Printer and Printers, for instance can be used on Konica Minolta compatible replacement cartridges.

Canon Printer Ink Variations and How They Work

April 6, 2009 by Ink Jet

Funny Digest questioned:

Canon manufactures numerous kinds of printers made specifically for photography and in all these different variations image quality is of the most significant importance. There are several different technologies that they use to accomplish this, each depending on the type of printer involved, and therefore each uses various different types of ink. There are several different styles involved for Canon printer ink.

Canon’s Inkjet Printer Ink

Most of the photo printers produced by Canon utilize inkjet technology. This technology creates images by outputting onto paper a significant number of droplets of ink. These micro-droplets are created from the nozzles in the section of the printer called the printer head. This method of printing is one of the most popular and most common as well, and is typically quiet, fast and produces high-quality images.

Fairly standard cartridges carry canons printer ink for its inkjet printers. One significant feature that makes canons printer ink cartridges different than many other manufacturers is the strategic choice to keep the printer head, the section from which the nozzles ink is output onto the paper, separate from the cartridge.

It is important to note that in various inkjet printers the print head is mounted directly onto the cartridge, therefore it has to be replaced each time the cartridge needs replacing. It is significant to point out that even amongst Canon’s products, not every inkjet cartridge is compatible with every canon inkjet printer. Different styles of cartridges are used on different models. Various models have all-in-one color cartridges, while some others utilize a separate cartridge for each significant printing color: magenta, cyan, black, and yellow.

Canon’s Dye-sublimation Printer Ink

There are some of Canon’s products, most notably their smaller handheld photo printers, that utilize what is known as thermal dye-sublimation system of printing. What this actually means is that the printer utilizes predetermined quantities of heat to transfer ink onto the paper from a ribbon. All four basic ink colors are contained in the ribbon itself, that are transferred onto the paper in different successive layers.

There is a clear protective layer that is added over the top of the ink for Canon’s photo printers. These can be a highly effective means of producing images very quickly, and end up using less space compared to ink jet printers.

Canon’s dye-sublimation printer ink is generally sold on the market with the paper itself in a package. These particular packages are mostly interchangeable, as the majority of Canon’s compact photo printers utilize similar papers styles, sizes and ink. Canon also makes available specialty versions, specifically manufactured to make greeting cards or labels. These particular ones may not be compatible with many of Canon’s printer models, but are useful for creating specialty items nonetheless.

Printer Ink Refills

April 6, 2009 by Ink Jet

Untasteful questioned:

As the ink in the cartridges runs dry, the buyer has to look for sources to find a replacement to the spent cartridges. While it is recommended to use new original cartridges, the price of a new cartridge is a big discouragement to buy. Many buyers look to third-party vendors who sell compatible cartridges, remanufactured cartridges, refills for customer’s cartridges and do-it-yourself inkjet refill kits.

Refilling empty cartridges with third-party vendor ink is the cheapest alternative to replacing empty cartridges. Refilling is done either by the third-party vendor or is done at home with a do-it-yourself inkjet refill kit.

Most of the cartridges can be refilled with printer ink specific to the brand model, provided the model number and the serial number of the cartridge is known. There can be repeated refills possible. The number of times a cartridge can be refilled depends upon certain factors. According to the third-party vendor, the printer should be not be used once the low ink warning is given. While removing the cartridge, the metal plate should not be touched and the cartridge should be placed in a plastic container with a piece of wet cloth attached to the side of the cartridge. The cartridge should be brought in for a refill as early as possible.

The other alternative is to refill the cartridge at home with a do-it-yourself inkjet refill kit. These kits come packaged with a syringe, bottles of printer ink for multiple refills, essential tools and instructions. Before refilling, an individual must read the instructions carefully. Improper handling can cause lot of troubles and even damage to the cartridge and the printer. While refilling color ink cartridges, care should be taken to see that the colors do not get mixed up. Unlike black printer ink cartridges, color ink cartridges require three or sometimes four types of color ink to be refilled, and so separate injectors must be used for each type.

Repeated refilling causes the cartridge to wear out and eventually become unusable. Also, it should be borne in mind that the refilled ink is not that of the original manufacturer, and is developed individually by the third-party vendor to meet the specific requirements of different brands and models of printers. In cases where microchips are integrated with the cartridges, the printer either refuses to accept the third-party refilled cartridge, or works with diminished functions.

Whether refilling directly from the vendor or shopping for inkjet refill kits on the Internet, the source should be checked for its reliability and credibility. Spurious inks give substandard prints and damage the printers.
