Printer ink is sometimes called “liquid gold”. It very well may be the most expensive liquid on earth. That’s because over the life of any ink jet printer you will most likely spend a lot more on ink cartridges than you initially spent on the printer.
However, when you know how to save your printer ink whenever you print a document, you will also save yourself and your company many dollars over the course of time. And that’s what this article is about.
It all starts with your choice of printer. One thing’s for sure – the large cartridges you will find on bigger printers are more cost effective than the small cartridges that you find in smaller printers. If you are purchasing a printer for your company because you need it to print out a lot of documents on a daily basis it could be well worth the extra initial investment to buy a larger printer.
Next, there are two primary things you can do to save your printers ink once you’ve bought it and installed your ink cartridges in your printer. The first is layout optimization and the second is the method you use to print your documents.
How to Optimize Your Layout
You can save a lot of printer ink by removing extraneous elements from the documents you print. For example, if you’re printing out an article that you’ve found on the Internet you can remove the ads, the comments, the menus, and anything else that you don’t need before you print it out.
Also, unless you really need the impact color printing can offer, why not print in black and white? Printing only in black ink, especially when you print reference documents, can save you a lot of money that you would needlessly spend on the more expensive color ink cartridges.
How to Choose Your Font and Print Mode
Compare fonts that have serifs to those without a serif. Some fonts are more dense than others. Compare font sizes. Some take up more space and use more ink. Also, whenever you print in bold you use more ink. These relatively minor considerations can add up to major dollars over the course of time.
One way to save substantially more money every time you print, though, is by printing in draft mode. Unless your work will be critically appraised it should be your printing mode of choice – if you want to save money on printer ink. As a test, why not print out one page in regular mode and then print out exactly the same page in draft mode. There’s a good chance you will hardly notice the difference.
Consider draft mode especially when you do internal printouts for your organization.

Computers have become an indispensable part of our lives. They have made a number of jobs simple and easy. Different types of printer and printers have further diversified the utility of computers. In many large organizations and publishing houses there are computers specially dedicated to the printers used there.
Getting a printer or scanner attached to the computer is not a difficult task. One can easily get one plugged in to the system. Alternatively, one can buy a single Multi-functional printer with scanner, fax, etc., all in one unit. This multi-functional printing unit is easy to install, efficient, and user-friendly. No matter what printer you choose as suitable for you, it will last long and provide you with hassle-free performance only if maintained well.
One area of concern for people who bring printers to heavy use is the ink cartridge cost. Ink cartridges for Printer and Printers are an essential requirement and account for the major amount of operating cost of the unit. This cost can be cut down to a great extent by proper usage of ink cartridges. Here are some tips to make the printer ink cartridges last longer:-
When printing a document in black-and-white, use a black ink cartridge. Colored cartridges also give good print but they result in faster depletion of the cartridge ink.
While printing draft documents, print in low resolution mode, this will use less ink. One can switch back to the high resolution mode when printing the final document.
Print the whole document only if there is a need. Otherwise, just select the portions requiring a reprint. Also, skip printing images if there is no need. This saves a lot of ink.
While selecting a printer, also inquire about the cartridges it requires. Some units use more expensive cartridges than others.
The cartridges are generally different for different series of the same printer brand. Konica Printer and Printers, for instance, use different toner cartridges for different Konica Minolta printer series. The price of the toners vary according to their quality and the number of pages they can print.
Almost all branded printers manufacture ink cartridges for their brands. These include Canon, Epson, Lexmark, and many others. The replacement ink cartridges are equally efficient. The Konica Printer and Printers, for instance can be used on Konica Minolta compatible replacement cartridges.
